This standard 8mm home movie features some footage taken at an airport somewhere in the world, and follows it up with some shots taken on an aeroplane during a flight and a short sequence taken on the flight deck during the flight.
Airport and aeroplane home movie
Film Processing and presentation
The film is one that I've had in my collection for a very long time without actually knowing what's on it! It was shot on a reel of Kodachrome and I believe it was taken around the year 1970, although I don't know the location of the airport.
Because I recently completed my home telecine project I've been working through the various films in my collection to see what is on them, and found this film labelled simply, 'Airport' which I ran through the scanner. The resultant film clip was then processed using the free edition of Davinci Resolve before uploading to YouTube.
I tried a different technique to the way I've been using Resolve during the editing of this clip. It's been my custom to take the newly scanned film clip into resolve and then split it at every scene change so each part of the film can be separately tuned for exposure etc. That process is quite time consuming however, and so I tried something different.
With this film, I first added a node on the Colour Page and added basic exposure and colour correction to the whole clip first. I also added a node on the Fusion page which added sharpening. With those in place I then watched the whole film, and added splits where I needed to create any additional correction. The advantage of using this technique is that the nodes added in the Colour and Fusion pages are automatically duplicated when a split is added. This is much faster that having to add nodes to each individual scene using the other method.
Once the film had been corrected in this way, I added titles to the front of the film, and placed a border round to hide the ragged edge.

As I said above I don't know the airport where this film was shot - if that's something a reader knows please let me know in the comments form below.
There are some opening shots of a plane landing at the airport and then sitting on the tarmac whilst many people crowd around it - presumably airline staff. There are also a few seconds of film of some of the flight crew walking away from the plane after the flight.
The most interesting part of the film to my mind is the short section where the photographer filmed the flight deck of the aeroplane during the flight. I don't know if this was generally allowed of if this was a special dispensation, or even if the photographer was part of the flight crew.
