Date Filmed: Home Movies from the 1970s

This category on Vintage Home Movies features films from the 1970s, i.e. films which were shot between 1970 and 1979.

The 1970s marked the end of the home movies’ most popular years. Although equipment had become more affordable than ever, which certainly boosted their popularity at the start of the decade, by the end of the 1970s video tape had taken over as the prime technology. Tape was easier to use, didn’t required a projector to watch it, could be reused when necessary and didn’t involve any processing costs, so it became the obvious technology to use.

Dedicated filmers carried on with Super 8 film into the 1980s, but the majority of film users gave up recording during this decade.

Because of this, the films from the 1970s category is less densely populated than the previous two decades categories on Vintage Home Movies.
