About the F-100 Super Sabre jet aircraft
The F-100 Super Sabre was designed and made by North American Aviation and took it’s first flight in May 1953 before it entered full service in September 1954. It was powered by a Pratt & Whitney turbojet engine and this get it a top speed of 860 mph.
The very first models of the aircraft had some stability issues which led to various accidents and some design improvements to iron out the initial problems. The swept back wings of the F-100s design gave it a very modern feel when compared to the turbo prop planes of only a decade or so before it was intruduced.
The Super Sabre saw action in the Vietnam War in the 1960s and as well as being used by the US Air Force, it was also used by several other nations including France and Denmark.
