A rather strange 8mm vintage home movie which shows a group of men on, I believe, a business trip in the spring of 1956.
The standard 8 film was shot on Kodak Panchromatic black & white film and has notes on the box which give the date it was taken. There are also some notes which identify the location as St Helens and Warrington but there is no mention of the purpose of the trip - I've assumed it was a business trip.
Those notes on the box were the starting point in my detective work trying to find the exact location and I found the road, Dentons Green Lane which appears in the opening sequence of the film, with a google maps search.
Although I assume the garage which I found in my google search is on the same location as the garage in the opening sequence of the film, there have been some changes to the house shown in the background so I'm not certain. Anyway, I think the general location is correct.
Business Trip film
The actual film has some rather odd sequences. The younger man in the film((I assume the brother or husband of the photographer )) bows several times to the camera and often makes gestures to it. There is a section where he seems to be bouncing a car (presumably testing the suspension?), and there is a car chase sequence towards the end of this short clip.
I suspect much of this was put on for the camera because of the novelty of seeing oneself on the screen. Interestingly, the man in this film was also in a short film about Cables Transport on this site and behaved in a similar way - perhaps he was just that sort of effervescent character and always behaved like that.
The other interesting point I noticed was the formal dress of all the characters - they are all wearing suits and ties; I suppose for a business trip they would, but I can't help thinking that these days they would not be in suits.
