The vintage home movie in this clip features a wedding from 1961 which was presumably taken by a friend of the bride and groom.
It's unusual to find an 8mm film where the date it was taken is known for certain. Knowing that information normally relies on somebody writing it on the reel or the box, but in the clip below there is a title scene in one of the opening sequences which shows the date as 9th September 1961.
The film shows the wedding of Brenda & Ian although I don't know anymore details about the couple themselves. There is a church notice board shown in the film however, and with some careful guessing and google searching, I've discovered that the church shown in the film is the St Mary de Haura Church, New Shoreham. With a bit more detective work it is probably possible to find out some more about the couple, although that would involve a trip to the church itself because I can't find that information online.
The Wedding in 1961
The opening sequence shows a view of the church from the road followed by the title sequence and then a shot from higher up to get a full view of the church.
There is some footage of the groom waiting anxiously at the church entrance and then general shots of guests arriving at the wedding and greeting the groom. Some very interesting old((Old now, not then )) cars arrive with the more important guests and we see what I assume is the chief bridesmaid standing at the church entrance.
Now the action cuts to the house of the bride and we see her being accompanied to a car by, I assume, her father. I'm guessing there must have been two photographers involved in making this film unless the distance between the bride's house and the church was very short((Or some of these sequences were reenacted and shot at a later time but that seems unlikely ))
The next part of the film shows the bride arriving at the church in the car, and being assisted by the bridesmaid into the church. There is no filming of the actual ceremony, so there are some covering images of the church until the happy couple are filmed emerging from the church door a few moments later.
The usual scenes of photographs being taken are followed by the bride and groom getting into a car to take them to the railway station. I noticed at this point that one of the guests has also appeared in a couple of other films on Vintage Home Movies, the Christmas Party film and the Garden Visit. All these films were in the same package which I bought from eBay.
The next shots from the wedding are at the station, where we see the newly wed couple depart on honeymoon.
