The video featured in this post was taken on and around the island of Skye and in the town of Ullapool sometime in the summer of 1960. We can be fairly sure of the date because the box the film was returned to the owner in as a postal date stamp of September 1960.
The film is a single reel of Standard 8mm Kodachrome film so the whole digitised clip is quite short at just under 4 minutes in total. I have edited out the portion of the clip where the film was turned over during filming because it was blank.
The start of the film shows the Island of Skye and scenes of a family wandering the costal region. There are also some quite interesting shots of birds in the rocks and some children playing with the birds. Starting at about 1 minute in there is a distant shot of the town of Ullapool, which I found interesting because I'd featured some images from that town on found-film a few months ago.
I don't recognise the large house which appears next in the clip of Skye and Ullapool, so if you recognise any of the landmarks in this clip, please let me know in the comments form below. Towards the end of the clip there is an amusing and obviously staged meeting of two ladies; The first lady is seen standing an waiting to be told to start walking and then after she greets the other lady she walks up to the camera and again waits!
