Holiday in Germany in June 1986

This film shows a family holiday in Germany which was filmed in June 1986 on Kodachrome KMA super 8 movie film. The film shows many of the cities of Germany including Bonn, Cologne and Koblenz.

About this film

This film was taken by the same photographer who shot a couple of other films which I’ve already published on Vintage Home Movies. I purchased all the films at the same time, they are all longer than normal ‘home movies’ and all taken on super 8 film.

The first published film was one of the USA and I remember thinking at the time how accomplished the photographer was and this film is of a similar quality. The pan shots are done slowly without wobble, and the film is generally well exposed and well shot. The one negative, which was hardly the photographer’s fault, was that the weather during the trip for the most part seemed to have been quite cloudy and dull – there’s nothing like sunshine to improve the look of home movies in my opinion!

The Holiday in Germany film

The holiday in Germany film is shown embedded below.

The thing which struck me most about the film was how familiar a lot of the scenes were, which is in a way odd because although I’ve been to Germany, I’ve not been to the regions shown in the film. No, the reason it looks so familiar is because I’ve seen so much of the same locations on films here on Vintage Home Movies!

I think that shows what a popular holiday destination Germany has been for people in the UK over the last 50 years.
