This post includes a standard 8mm home movie of a family's visit to London in what I estimate to be about 1965. The family seems to consist of a father, mother and two young children and the content of the film suggests this was simply a day in London in 1965 showing the children the sites and sounds.
The film was shot on Kodachrome film.
The film starts with an opening sequence taken at Buckingham Palace which shows soldiers in bearskin hats marching and parading. There is a small crowd watching the soldiers and also outside the front of Buckingham Palace, but it's difficult to see if this is because it's one of the special ceremonial days of just standard levels of tourism interest.
After some shots of 1960s cars on the road outside the Palace, the family move on to one of the parks in London. There are shots of ducks swimming and then a couple of children feeding the pidgeons along with their mother. The children would now be about the same age as me - I wonder if they will ever see this clip?
The next part of the movie is taken at Horse Guard's Parade with shots of the War Memorial and the Horse Guard's building.
The final few feet of film is shot in Trafalgar Square. Again the children and their mum are feeding the pidgeons, but I like the brief shot of three boys leaning against the fountain in the background behind the family. They look like they are plotting something - I wonder what they were talking about all those years ago?
