This short post features a vintage home movie from about 1970 which was shot during a traditional bull fight in a Spanish town.
The film is part of a longer vintage home movie which was taken by a family on holiday in Spain in about 1970. Most of the rest of the film featured typical family holiday fun and beach scenes in Spain, which I may edit into another film on the site at some point.
It was taken on standard 8, Kodachrome film and I don't know the location but I assume it would be one of the major cities in Spain.
Bull Fight Film
I have to say that Bull Fighting is not something I'm either attracted to or approve of, but I also understand that it is a sport which still enjoys support in Spain although not by any means by everyone. However, since I found the film and I thought it may be of interest I'm publishing it because it falls into one of the core reasons I set the site up, namely social history.
The film is not technically very good unfortunately. There are a few sections where the sun has entered the lens either straight on or an an angle which has caused reflections in the lens, and this has resulted in flaring and poor exposure for some parts. I guess this was one of the big disadvantages of film - you don't see the results immediately and so the photographer couldn't correct for this at the time because they didn't know it was happening.
I won't write much more about the film itself - it shows what you would expect from a bull fight and you will make of it what you will.

This video was removed by YouTube because it violated the community guidelines on animal cruelty.
I considered challenging this, but on reflection I decided not to because there is no doubt that the film showed violence to the bull and I couldn't really argue it didn't.
