The split bridge in Sydney harbour c1959

This photo, taken in about 1959, shows the Spit Bridge in Sydney, Australia a well-known bascule or drawbridge that spans Middle Harbour, connecting the suburbs of Seaforth in the foreground to Mosman in the background of this image.
The bridge’s right-hand leaf is raised which is allowing a ferry to pass through and this is a characteristic mechanism of the Spit Bridge, which is still in existence and operates exactly the same way today.
The photo itself has suffered a bit over the years and has some dirt and also has very high contrast levels that lead to some of the details in the shadows being lost.
