Aer Lingus Boeing 707 jet on the runway
This is an Aer Lingus Boeing 707 jet on the runway just before it takes off to travel to New York.
The reason I know the destination is because it is written on the slide holder, but that’s the only piece of solid information other than the aircraft type and what can be gleaned from the photo itself. We can tell that it’s Aer Lingus because the distinctive green shamrock can be seen on the aircraft’s tail. The date of the photo is difficult to be sure of, but Aer Lingus were one of the first airlines to transition from turbo prop aircraft to jet aircraft, and started using the Boeing 707 from as early as 1965, so this photo was probably taken in the late 1960s or early 1970s.
Since the flight is destined for New York, it’s likely that this photo was taken in Ireland at Dublin airport.
