Vauxhall Chevette from 1979
A Vauxhall Chevette car parked on the side of the road, presumably outside the owner’s house. Not sure of the date, but this car was made between 1975 & 1984, so the picture couldn’t have been taken before 1975. The car itself has a T registration, I think, which places it at 1978 so that means the picture was probably taken in the late 1970s or early 1980s.
About the Vauxhall Chevette
The Chevette was one of Vauxhall’s most popular models in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and in fact was one of the most popular cars on British roads. It was available in several different body styles, including a 3 door hatchback, 4 door saloon and the model shown in the photo here, which is a 3 door estate car.
The earlier models were powered by a 1.2 L petrol engine, but this was later upgraded to a 1.3 L version for most models.
As well as it’s popularity as a family car, the Chevette enjoyed success as a rally car using the HS and HSV 2.3L versions.
