About the Bandstand at Eastbourne

The bandstand at Eastbourne was built in 1935, having been designed by Leslie Rosevere to seat a total of 3,500 people, although these days the seating has been reduced to about 1,600 in order to give better access in emergency situations. The cost of the construction was about £28,000.

The bandstand has been used in several television programmes including the wartime ITV detective drama, Foyles War.

A commemorative plaque is featured on the bandstand to John Wesley Woodward who was a bandsman in Eastbourne and who was playing aboard the Titanic when it sank in 1912.
