Cars lined up at the French-Swiss border, 1950s
When I first saw this picture I though it was just a street scene of a line of cars and a small village somewhere in a mountainous region, but on closer inspection I can see that it is actually one of the border crossing points between France and Switzerland. There is a sigh post pointing left which says ‘Hotel de France’, and the house in the middle-right of the picture has a sign saying ‘Suisses’ on it. Once I looked closer, I can see a French flag and a Swiss flag and there is a checkpoint with police which presumably was stopping cars and viewing passports etc.
