A desk in a typical 1950s office

A photograph taken at a desk in somebody’s office in what is probably the 1950s. The interesting thing about this picture is the reams and reams of paper everywhere. There are drawings rolled up in-tray to the right above one of the bakelite telephones, and more paper covering every surface of the desk along with folders sitting in the ‘out’ section of a shelf above the desk. One of the file drawers, which are partially open, says on it ‘Exchange Equipment’ so I would guess this is a manufacturing or engineering factory of some sort. In fact, it looks similar in many ways to the first factory I worked in which was Marconi Instruments in St. Albans, although I started there in 1978 rather than the 1950s.
