Town crier in Nantwich in 1984
A picture of a town crier in a town somewhere in the uk taken in 1984.
The crier is waring traditional clothing associated with this occupation, but I don’t know if this is because he is actually employed as a town crier, or if this is some sort of theatrical re-enactment. I have to say that it looks a bit staged, because there are people in the town, but none of them seem to be taking any notice of him at all.
I’m not sure of the location – the shops don’t give many clues since there are hundreds of W. H. Smith shops throughout the UK.
Update: I was watching an episode of Great British Railway journey tonight called, “Shefield to Nantwich” and I recognised this town as Nantwich!
