Relaxing in a cafe on a sunny day in the 1950s

A portrait of a man relaxing in a street cafe whilst having his picture taken, presumably by his companion.

There is another man in the picture completing a crossword puzzle who is watching the photographer and in the rest of the picture there are a few other people, but otherwise, the cafe is quite quiet. On the seat next to the main subject is a hat which may belong to the man. On first look I though that a blue hat would not go with the clothes he is wearing, and the hat probably belongs to a companion, but on second look I noticed he is wearing blue trousers and shirt and so it probably his hat. In fact, since there is only one drink on the table in front of him, it's possible that he does not have a companion and may not even be the subject of the photo - this could be a candid street photo.

Although I don't know the date this picture was taken, the woman's hat in the background suggests very strongly the 1950s.
