Family house from the 1950s

A standard 8 vintage home movie in which the householder gives a tour of their 1950s family house.

I suspect that this film may have been taken by the photographer when they and their family moved into the house.

The evidence for this are scenes where there seems to be more disruption than would be normal for a family house. For example at the very start of the film a sofa is seen loaded with books which would normally be expected to be on a bookshelf.

As the camera moves out of the living room and into the hall an open tool box is seen laying on the floor. A few seconds later, as the camera moves into the kitchen, a woman is seen washing up at the kitchen sink and on the floor behind her there are cabinets which look as if they have been taken from the wall.

There are cables hanging down the kitchen wall, and as the camera moves into the hall, another cable trails down the stairs and along the landing. There is no carpet on the stairs, and in one of the bedrooms a woman is sorting through clothes which have been unpacked from a suitcase by her feet.

All of this points to a family which has just moved in to me.

I included this family house film on the Vintage Home Movies site because it seems to fit into the social history aspect of the site's main aims, as I explained in the Welcome and about post. By this I mean that if we look past the obvious disruption of a move, it is interesting to see the 1950s furniture and household appliances.
