The vintage home movie embedded below is one that was included with an 8mm projector I bought several months ago, and features several old buses at some sort of show or fair at the seaside town of Brighton.
The film Buses in Brighton
How the 'Buses in Brighton' film was produced
This is the first standard 8mm vintage film that I've digitised using my own telecine machine that I've been creating, on and off, for several years. It takes individual photos of each frame of the film and then uses those images to recreate a digital version of the original film. The 4000 odd individual photos that make up a standard 3 inch reel of film were assembled into movie clips using ffmpeg, and then the resultant film was edited and cleaned up using the free version of Davinci Resolve.
Unfortunately some parts of the film were poorly exposed, so although I did the best I could to recover those shots in Resolve, they still look pretty poor quality.
I also noticed, when I viewed the film for the first time, that there are some stationary marks on scenes that particularly show up on the brighter sections of the film. At first I thought these were marks on the sensor of the camera I use to take the individual photos of the film frames, and I spent time trying to clean the sensor, but in the end, after I'd actually changed the camera and re-digitised the film((I didn't buy another camera, I happened to have another one)) I found the marks remained and decided that they must have been on a filter the photographer had fitted to the camera.
I did a google search for any possible clues as to what this vintage film is actually about. I did find reference to a 'Brighton coach rally' in the 1960s so it's possible that this is a similar event. I don't think the film is as early as the 1960s, but it's not impossible that it could be. There are also some shots of vintage cars which I took to be from the London to Brighton vintage car rally so it's possible that a vintage bus rally took place in Brighton at the finish line of that race.
If anyone has any knowledge or memories of this event please let me know in the comments below.
