A Woman filming with an 8mm cine camera – September 1966

This holiday snapshot shows a woman filming a scene with an 8mm cine camera. Although Super 8 film was introduced in 1965, I suspect the model the woman is using is of an earlier design and is probably standard 8. At first, I thought she was filming the oranges growing on the tree in front of her1, but a more detailed examination of the photo suggests she is actually filming across the water in front of her. Possibly she panned from the oranges to the lake.
The 1960s was the golden age of home film making because film and cameras, although still expensive, had dropped to the price that more people could afford them and enjoyed reliving their holidays and special events long after the event had happened.
- Actually they are not growing on the tree but have been suspended in the tree by the orange seller down the road [↩]
