A Fun Holiday trip to Lisbon in Portugal in the 1960s

This super 8 vintage home movie was taken in the late 1960s during a holiday to Lisbon in Portugal.

About this film

This film is one of a set of 6 which I purchased from eBay which I assume were all taken by the same photographer. They were all taken on the same Agfa film stock and they are labelled with a description of the content, although I don't believe the labels are contemporary. Certainly, this film is labelled with the description:

Southampton docks, possibly golden gate bridge, Late 1960s

and once I'd watched the film I realised that the bridge which features is not the golden gate bridge, but the 25 de abril bridge in Lisbon, Portugal.

The film is pretty good condition and transferred to digital quite well, although there is a bit of fast panning in some section of the film.

Some pictures from the Lisbon Film

These pictures were taken from the Lisbon holiday trip film and give a taster of the film's content.

The Lisbon holiday film

The full 3 1/2 minute film is shown below.

It starts with some scenes of the family with their car, which looks like a Morris 1100 model and has a 'G' registration letter (although I freely admit that cars are not my thing so I could have got that wrong). The fact that the car is registration 'G' is the main factor in dating the film, because reference to this site tells me that it was made in 1968.

After the car scenes, the next shots are taken at Southampton Docks were the holiday trip starts. Obviously the family took a boat from Southampton and filmed their departure, including some scenes of other family members or friends waving them off from the quayside.

The next shots are from the city of Lisbon with views around the city showing the cars and city sights. There is also a few seconds of film of the 25 de abril bridge, which the person who wrote the descriptions on the film though may be the golden gate bridge.
