This is a photo of the Kessock Ferry, which used to run between Inverness and the Black Isle across the Beauly Firth. It connected North Kessock and South Kessock and was a vital shortcut (otherwise drivers faced a long detour inland). The service existed for centuries and only ended when the bridge opened in 1982.

The vessel in the photo is obviously called Rosehaugh. The MV Rosehaugh was introduced in 1967 as the largest and most modern ferry on the route. It could carry about 17 cars and up to 150 passengers and it had ramps on multiple sides.

The photo is almost certainly late 1960s or 1970s probably towards the end of the ferry’s operation.
