This photo appears to be taken across the harbour at Aberdeen in northeast Scotland. There are several skyline landmarks which identify the scene as Aberdeen:

  • The twin spires in the middle distance match St Nicholas Kirk, a prominent church in the city centre.

  • The tall modern rectangular tower behind the older granite buildings is St Nicholas House, a 1960s office block that stood in the city centre for decades before being demolished in 2014.

  • The foreground water and fishing vessels strongly resemble Aberdeen Harbour, historically one of Britainโ€™s major fishing ports on the North Sea.

The photographer appears to have been standing on a pier or quay on the south side of the harbour, looking toward the city.
