Christmas or New Year party late 1950s

This snapshot from the late 1950s seems to show a Christmas or New Year’s celebration party. It’s a bit de-focussed and blurry, and unfortunately has some dust marks and dirt which makes it difficult to see too much detail in the shot, but it does seem to show people enjoying themselves and having a good time.

I noticed a large club sign on the wall above the man on the left – I wondered if this was because there had been card games being played ?
