This photograph was originally published on Everything Vintage as an unidentified “castle or public building”. It has since been identified as part of Canterbury Cathedral, looking across the remains of the medieval monks’ infirmary towards the Cathedral Treasury.
The structure intruding down the right-hand side of the photograph is some of the surviving remains of the monastic infirmary, much of which disappeared after the Reformation. Portions of its Norman arcades remain on the north-east side of the cathedral.
